Republican Senator Lindsey Graham claims Stephen Miller, a policy adviser to the president, is responsible for stopping legislation that would end the government shutdown.
The Trump administration is in the midst of its first government shutdown which started last Friday when Congress failed to pass a spending bill, this marks the 18th time that the government has officially shutdown since the modern process took effect in 1976, but it is the first time that it has happened under single party control.
On Sunday afternoon, a bipartisan Senate group met in an attempt to vote on an immigration proposal that would enable the government to reopen temporarily, but the meeting was unsuccessful.
Sen. Graham has called out Miller, blaming him for halting a previous Dreamer Deal, one that Trump had agreed on, and saying the policy adviser would stop any immigration deal. Graham expressed his ire via Twitter, “Every time we have a proposal, it is only yanked back by staff members. As long as Stephen Miller is in charge of negotiating on immigration, we are going nowhere.”
Perhaps, Trump can practice his art of making a deal and get the government reopened during today’s sessions.
