Satanic Temple wins battle over Missouri's draconian anti-choice laws

On Wednesday, the Satanic Temple won a huge battle in the Missouri Supreme Court over abortion rights.

The Satanic Temple is a group that doesn’t believe in Satan literally but sees biblical Satan as a metaphor for rebellion against tyranny. On Wednesday, they won a battle in the Missouri Supreme Court against the state’s draconian anti choice laws.

The list of requirements that are not medically necessary in Missouri includes Doctors forcing a woman to have an ultrasound, forcing her to listen to the fetal heartbeat, giving her a pamphlet saying life begins at conception, and imposing a three day waiting period. Satanic.

In the case brought up by the Satanists they argued that the Missouri requirements are medically unnecessary and violated their clients rights under the Missouri Religious Freedom Restoration Act. They argued the requirements to be violations of her first amendment rights.

The Satanic Temple asked the Court “it’s the position of the State that an ultrasound does not have to be conducted unless a person says they want the opportunity to hear the fetal heartbeat.” The Solicitor General D. John Sauer agreed, and ruled the heartbeat requirement is satisfied if it is offered and a woman declines. A small victory.
