Back in August of 2017, UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor boldly stepped through the ropes of the boxing ring to challenge undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. Despite some surprisingly successful moments from McGregor, this fight went as most fans expected, as Mayweather poured on the offense down the stretch, and put his Irish foe away with a tenth-round volley.
While McGregor and Mayweather’s battle is now soundly in the rear-view mirror, their beef is still sizzling. The two combat sports stars frequently rip at one another on social media, a trend that continues to this day.
The latest shots were fired by Mayweather, who evidently just heard about McGregor’s late-2017 brush with the Irish cartel. While the UFC lightweight champ’s alleged trouble with the cartel never really amounted to anything, Mayweather decided to comment all the same.“I already fucked you up in 2017 now they about to fuck you up in 2018,” Mayweather said in his Tweet, along with a screen capture of a pertinent headline. “You’re about to start your new year off with a bang.”

Unsurprisingly, it didn’t take McGregor long to respond to this jab from Mayweather.
“I am the cartel,” McGregor said in his response.
After his win over Conor McGregor, Floyd Mayweather ostensibly re-retired – though he’s certainly stayed in the headlines since then. McGregor, meanwhile, has kept the combat sports world guessing about his next move. Though he’s maintained a presence in the boxing world, the most likely option seems to be a return to the UFC, where fighters like Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov await him.
