UFC heavyweight Mark Hunt has remained one of the most destructive heavyweights on the UFC roster despite being 43-years old. Ranked #7 on the UFC’s official rankings, Hunt is currently gearing up for his ‘UFC Fight Night: New Zealand’ scrap with #6 ranked heavyweight Derrick Lewis tonight.
Ahead of the fight, many question when Hunt will choose to hang the gloves up for good, however ‘The Super Samoan’ revealed recently that he doesn’t have a master plan for his retirement in the near future, rather he plans to keep fighting until he no longer can.
He spoke to Fox Sports:
“I LOVE FIGHTING. I DON’T HAVE TO PUT A TIME LIMIT ON IT,” HUNT RECENTLY TOLD FOX SPORTS. “I’VE SPENT 26 YEARS FIGHTING IN TWO DIFFERENT SPORTS. THE OLD DOG IS STILL GOING. I’M NOT GOING TO QUIT NOW. I’M GOING TO KEEP GOING UNTIL I CAN’T DO IT OR GOD SAYS THERE’S AN INJURY AND YOU’RE DONE. THAT’S HOW IT IS FOR ME.
“UNTIL THE WHEELS FALL OFF, THIS BUS IS STILL GOING TO BE HAULING ASS. I’M NOT SCARED, HOMIE. JUST LIKE NICK DIAZ SAYS. I AIN’T NEVER SCARED.”
“HE’S FIGHTING IN THE TOP 10 AND THE MAIN THING FOR ME IS THAT I’M NOT CHEATING AND I HOPE HE’S NOT CHEATING. I THINK IT’S GOING TO BE A GREAT FIGHT AND MAY THE BEST MAN WIN, NOT THE BEST CHEATER.”
Mark Hunt of course is referencing his ongoing dispute with the UFC over Brock Lesnar failing a USADA-administered drug test prior to their UFC 200 fight, and Alistair Overeem using an IV around the time of their UFC 209 scrap in March. In addition, Hunt has been extremely outspoken against PED users given the fact that throughout the course of his career, numerous opponents have failed drug tests following their fight.
Ahead of Hunt’s fight with Lewis however, the two men were respectful of one another, even going as far as to praise one another in interviews.
