Former two-weight boxing world champion Paulie Malignaggi was brought in as a sparring partner for Conor McGregor’s camp for his mega-money fight against Floyd Mayweather. Malignaggi, who recently retired from boxing, had a couple of sparring sessions with McGregor but called it quits after McGregor’s camp “exploited” him with photos from the sparring showing McGregor seemingly getting the best of their training.
One photo that McGregor’s camp released showed Malignaggi getting up off the ground from his back as if McGregor knocked Malignaggi down. Paulie claimed it was a push downand stated that if people really want to see how their full 12 rounds of sparring went down, the UFC Performance Institute where they sparred has the full video of their session and should release it.
Malignaggi continued with more details from the sparring session replying to a few select tweets after announcing he was no longer going to help with McGregor’s camp.
Fan: Looks like he got caught talking shite and got put on his back 😂
Paulie Malignaggi: Nah I pretty much talked shit that whole sparring session while I beat the breaks off him, the push down was his frustration from it.
Fan: U can tell by how Cortez is approaching Conor did something wrong @PaulMalignaggi said it was a push I believe him
Paulie Malignaggi: Very good observation there, good way to educate the Conor groupies and casuals. Cortez reaction is a big hint.
Fan: Lets please be real here, u started talking about how Conor is over rated in the media first. You started it, now play victim bcus of 2pics?
Paulie Malignaggi: The pics cause the media to rush me for answers, unlike u I’m not an irrelevant nobody, pics of me cause a media rush I can’t avoid, get it?
Fan: Did you actually think they were going to use you for your expertise in boxing. They wanted to make you pay for all the shit you were talkin
Paulie Malignaggi: Maybe but I didn’t Pay for anything, a video exists, UFC PI has 24 hr cameras, when the fight is over will they release UNEDITED film?
Fan: Did you take your own photographer to camp? If so please release photos/videos showing what actually happened. This is getting out of hand
Paulie Malignaggi: Ur kidding with that question right? Like no way u r this stupid. Conor’s people n ONLY Conors people allowed in gym, his photogs only.
Fan: @PaulMalignaggi why is your face showing so much work, yet Conor still looks fresh? You claim to beat the brakes off him?…
Paulie Malignaggi: @bokamotoESPN posted a pic of me the next morning when he interviewed me, where is the work? This is real life this isn’t make believe buddy
Fan: They all planed that shit before you even knew you gonna be his sparring partner
Paulie Malignaggi: Hate to say it but it’s clear when I look back at my time there that there was an agenda from the start, too many clues.
Fan: @PaulMalignaggi hope you didn’t sign a non disclosure agreement #weasel
Paulie Malignaggi: I did but I didn’t get paid anyway. Now go back and be a good Lil groupie and tweet about your Conor fantasies and stories.
Fan: Yes.. there’s a limit though.. you shouldn’t be trying to KO someone in a sparring session.. not the point nor is it respectful
Paulie Malignaggi: That kind of sparring is normal for boxers on a high level, I boxed many yrs so it’s normal but to put a weird spin on things is unethical.
