The current WWE star is still under contract as a champion with the organization but his deal is apparently set to expire sooner rather than later.
UFC President, Dana White has already said himself that Lesnar will indeed fight in the UFC again. It’s now just a matter of when.
White has also said that it is possible that the former UFC heavyweight champion, Lesnar…who hasn’t won a fight since 2010…could very well get an immediate title shot upon his return.
In said case, he would be facing the winner of the UFC 226 super fight between light heavyweight and heavyweight champions, Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic.
With the fight just around the corner and taking place on July 7th, the current heavyweight king, Miocic recently spoke with Submission Radio about possibly fighting Lesnar next after a win over Cormier.
“HONESTLY, I HEARD ABOUT THAT TOO, THEY’VE TALKED ABOUT IT BEFORE AT THAT PRESS CONFERENCE. LIKE I SAID, ALL I CARE ABOUT IT JULY 7TH, IT’S ALL I’VE GOT MY MIND ON, AND AFTER THAT, I’LL WORRY ABOUT IT AFTERWARD. THEN I’LL WORRY ABOUT MY DAUGHTER BEING BORN.
NO, PROBABLY NOT, [I WOULDN’T FIGHT BROCK] RIGHT NOW. I’D DO IT, BUT NOT RIGHT AWAY.
I PLAN ON [TAKING A BREAK AFTER MY DAUGHTER IS BORN]. I MEAN, IT’S THE PLAN. I GOTTA ENJOY MY DAUGHTER.
EVERYONE’S TOUGH, IT DOESN’T MATTER. EVERYONE CAN WIN ON ANY GIVEN NIGHT. IT’S THE FIGHT GAME. HONESTLY, LIKE I SAID, I DON’T REALLY CARE WHAT’S HAPPENING OUTSIDE OF IT RIGHT NOW, MY FOCUS IS ON JULY 7TH. GOOD FOR BROCK, GOOD FOR CURTIS [BLAYDES], I WISH NOTHING BUT THE BEST FOR THEM, BUT RIGHT NOW ALL I CARE ABOUT IS DC, JULY 7TH.”
As Miocic says, all of his focus is on Cormier which is a good thing to hear. This is arguably the biggest fight in UFC history when it comes to the caliber of champions taking each other on and who will come out victorious is anyone’s guess.
Some may forget that Cormier was undefeated at 13-0 as a heavyweight before he dropped down to 205 pounds to capture gold in the division that didn’t play home to one of his best friends and teammates, Cain Velasquez.
“YEAH, MAN, IT’S EXCITING [TO GET A SUPER FIGHT].” MIOCIC CONTINUED, “IT’S JUST A DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE, AND A GUY COMING TRYING TO TAKE MY BELT. I MEAN, NOTHING’S GONNA CHANGE, I’M STILL GONNA WALK OUT WITH THE BELT STILL WRAPPED AROUND MY WAIST, AND STILL. NOTHING’S GOING TO CHANGE ABOUT THAT.
HE’S A GREAT FIGHTER BUT HE’S NOT TAKING WHAT I’VE EARNED. YOU KNOW, I WORKED TOO HARD, I’VE SACRIFICED TOO MUCH FOR MY BELT AND IT’S GOING TO BE A GREAT TIME, A GREAT OPPORTUNITY. IT’S GONNA BE AMAZING, CAUSE WE’RE DOING THE SUPER FIGHT. YOU KNOW, PEOPLE LOVE IT AND IT’S WHAT PEOPLE WANT TO SEE, IT’S A BIG THING RIGHT NOW, SO WHY NOT? LET’S HAVE SOME FUN.
I MATCH UP WELL. I THINK I MATCH UP REALLY WELL. I THINK IT’S A GREAT MATCHUP FOR ME. IF IT WASN’T I PROBABLY WOULDN’T HAVE TAKEN THE FIGHT *LAUGHS*. BUT I’M A BAD MATCHUP FOR ANYONE. AND I HEARD HE’S GOT GREAT WRESTLING, BUT YOU KNOW, IT’S NOT GONNA BE A WRESTLING MATCH, IT’S MIXED MARTIAL ARTS, SO I GET TO PUNCH HIM TOO. HE’S A TOUGH GUY AND HE COMES FORWARD, BUT I THINK I’LL HAVE A LOT OF ANSWERS FOR THAT. WHEN HE COMES FORWARD I’LL HAVE AN ANSWER FOR EVERYTHING.”
If Miocic wins on July 7th and takes his break, one has to imagine that the UFC will try as hard as they possibly can to set up the rumored Lesnar vs Jon Jones matchup. But of course, we still need to find out what happens with Jones’ USADA trial.
