Diaz spoke with Ariel Helwani on a special edition of The MMA Hour on Wednesday about the business of mixed martial arts.
Diaz stated that entertainers who make millions of dollars are there in the front row watching them fight in the Octagon. Diaz says that the fighters are entertaining the entertainers who get paid the big bucks, so in return, they should be getting paid handsomely for it.
Diaz also says too many fighters are often saying they will fight anyone at any time, and for a lousy payday, which is only hurting their business and pay for fighters themselves.
“I think that’s what fighters don’t realize is that it’s business,” Diaz said. “And, if they don’t start treating themselves like it they won’t get nowhere, you know?”
Diaz reportedly upset UFC President Dana White during their lunch meeting in Stockton, California recently and it sounds like the younger Diaz brother is standing his ground to get paid what he feels he is worth for his draw in the rematch with “The Notorious.”
“If my biggest payday was just the other day, at my last fight, all the hard work I’ve put in and all the sh*t I’ve done, then it’s a wrap. “I’m cool,” Diaz said.
Diaz said that he is going to get everything he can with this rematch with McGregor.
“I’m gonna maximize my potential, whatever I can get out of this, I’m a get,” Diaz said.
“I’m not just gonna sit back and say I’ll fight anybody,” Diaz continued. “No, I been there. I been done that. I don’t have to say that. Now I’m like, ‘f*** you, pay me motherf*****.’ ”
