Summer Fun! A Fresh & Fruity Milkshakes Bar

It feels like a good time to take a deep breath and just chill out for a bit before the fall/holiday madness begins. (And that includes pretending that I don’t really see those Halloween items being stocked on the store shelves already too!)

Two things that really scream “summer!” to me are ice cream and fresh fruit. So, I thought it would be fun to pair them together as the inspiration for this project – which is the last of 3 milkshake bars that I recently created for ++California Milk Advisory Board++. The first 2 milkshake bars had plenty of the more traditional ice cream toppings like hot fudge, caramel sauce, sprinkles, etc.. If you’re feeling in a chocolate-y (or boozy!) mood you can check those out ++here++ (Cocktail Milkshakes) and ++here++ (Nautical Shakes & Sundaes).

This “Fresh & Fruity” Milkshakes Bar still features delicious ice cream made from Real California Milk, but the ingredients have taken a healthy twist… focusing on fresh fruit and lower fat or all-natural additions like agave nectar, low-fat granola, crushed pistachios, and Chia seeds.

Let’s start with a closer look at the fruity milkshakes on the menu:

The Watermelon Chill
Remember how I mentioned the need to chill out earlier? Well, here’s a great way to do it! (Preferably while lounging poolside on a sunny afternoon.)

This milkshake features: vanilla ice cream made from Real California Milk, fresh watermelon, a splash of milk, and a bit of agave nectar. The amount of agave nectar necessary will vary based on the sweetness of your watermelon, so just add it to taste. The ++chia seeds++ can be mixed in or used as a garnish. I love how they give a little nod to the look of “watermelon seeds” when used as a garnish!

The Tropical Dream
Pineapple, bananas, milk, cinnamon, AND vanilla ice cream made from Real California Milk… what’s not to love?! I chose to go heavier on the pineapple than the bananas here myself (about a 2-1 ratio), and really loved the result, but you can adjust the flavor ratio to your liking. Garnish with extra cinnamon and pineapple for a pretty presentation.

BTW – In case you’re curious, these Tropical Dream shakes are served in what I call “balloon-dipped” glasses. I’m going to post a tutorial on these soon, but the idea is simple – essentially you just trim the tail off a balloon and stretch it around the bottom of the glass for a quick and mess-free “paint dipped” look! You can also download the printable straw flags for free ++right here++.

The Berry Delight
This one is especially for the berry lovers, and is packed with antioxidants to boot! Start with strawberry ice cream made from Real California Milk, then add blueberries, blackberries, a splash of milk, and agave nectar to sweeten:

To garnish the berry Delight, make mini fruit skewers out of strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries, as pictured above. Cute, right?! My husband gets the credit for those. ;)

Fresh & Fruity Milkshake Bar + Free Printables

Now that we’ve covered the milkshakes themselves, here are some ideas for styling these (or something similar) into a full Milkshake Bar, which would be a fun addition to a baby/bridal shower or a just-for-fun summer get-together. You can also download all of the ++free printables++ to use too!

The printable designs include the 8×10 Menu Sign pictured above, the chalkboard labels, 4×6 signs, a banner, and more…

Fresh produce was used as “decor” for this table, and then it also filled bowls on the station as optional mix-ins, or as ingredients for guests to use to come up with their own “fruity milkshake” idea.

Instead of things like rainbow sprinkles and crushed cookies as the dry topping options, you’ll find crushed ++pistachios++, chia seeds, and low-fat granola with flax on this bar!

The cute little wooden scoopers are from ++Sucre Shop++, and the topping labels are available as downloads along with the rest of the ++free printables++ too!

ENJOY! I hope this post inspires you to soak up – and SIP UP – some summer fun too! :)
