'Farm to Table' dinner hosted in Potsdam

POTSDAM -- A “Farm to Table” dinner was put together to celebrate local food and the initiative of growing food in school.

Cheryl Nolette's and Katsitsionni Fox's classes have been growing food using a variety of growing systems.

The classes asked for local food donations from various local farmers and the Mohawk club prepared the meal with the assistance of Kenny Perkins and Amy Conger the Executive Chef at SUNY Potsdam. The food was donated by Stickney farms and Kenny Perkins.

Students will continue to grow food in the classroom and provide fresh food to the students and staff at Salmon River Central. The growing systems in Nolette's class was purchased by the Alcoa Grant through SUNY Potsdam with the help of Ray Bowdish.

The gardening program utilizes all aspects of academic learning such as math, science, reading, and writing.
