Buckeye Ballot Battles
Live in Ohio? Over the age of 21? Want to grow weed at home? Jimmy Gould thinks you should be able to. Gould has until America’s birthday next year (…July 4, 2018) to get the 300,000+ signatures necessary for a ballot amendment in Ohio. If you’re rooting for Gould, but wearily checking out his track record, don’t be discouraged. Gould has been an outspoken proponent of decriminalizing marijuana, and co-founded the group ResponsibleOhio, which was the driving force behind Ohio's failed Issue 3 marijuana initiative in 2015. Though Issue 3 would have legalized marijuana for both medical and recreational use, the measure lost when nearly two-thirds of voters statewide voted "no.'' Gould may have more going for him this time around, mostly notably the shift in public sentiment and increased nationwide trend toward legalization. Can Gould’s crew knock on enough doors this spring to get his initiative on the ballot? Check back in to see if a more market marijuana vision will be implemented in the Buckeye State.
