Maven Coalition News - May 4, 2019

A regular compendium of news and tips for all Mavens across the Maven coalition.

New Role for Pete Treperinas

Many of you know Pete from his work onboarding and supporting Maven sites. We’re delighted to announce Pete is moving to a new role as product manager for community & membership features. We expect his strong product instincts and deep knowledge of Maven partner needs will help him succeed. Meanwhile you remain in good hands with Sarah Stringfellow and her support team. Congrats Pete!

Product Update - Distribution Widget

As announced several newsletters ago, we’ve been experimenting and gathering data from different techniques for distributing traffic around the coalition. The latest can be seen in the lead photo above. It comes into view if you navigate to History from a Google search, scroll down, then begin scrolling back up. This generally indicates “exit intent” and we display a selection of interesting & relevant stories from the same site and other related sites from the Maven coalition.

You can see another variant here. Early data is promising, and we will continue refining and rolling this out more broadly in the coming months.

Publishing Tip: Titles for SEO

An article’s title plays an incredibly important role in determining whether or not your article will rank well (or appear at all) in search engine results. Successful titles will:

  • Be short and descriptive (fewer than 65 characters)
  • Include common search terms/keywords - don’t get all flouncy with your word choices
  • Provide info that is unique to your subject (admit it - you’re not the only one who has shared a “The Best Apple Pie” recipe)

You’ll find additional valuable SEO info in the MavenToMaven Trainings area here.

Thank you for being a Maven.
