As Their Numbers Dwindle, Jewish Fighters Against the Nazis Recount Their Stories
There are only a few remaining Holocaust survivors and resistance fighters from World War II. These survivors are sharing more of their stories for the world to hear, working to ameliorate their fears that this history may be lost amidst a wave of revisionism across the world.
"Dina Porat, chief historian at Israel’s Yad Vashem memorial, said that thanks to the many books, films and collected testimony, there is little danger of their legacy being erased. Still, the live witness accounts pose a powerful rebuke to the current wave of historical revisionism in several eastern European countries seeking to play down their own wartime complicity."
“There is a process of rewriting history in these places,” said Yitzhak Arad, 91, who blew up 16 German supply trains as a teenager. “We are fading away, so it will be up to the next generation to continue this battle with the tools at their disposal.”
These stories need to be told so that they will never be repeated. If we do not understand what happened there, it will be far too easy to simply allow the exact same things to happen in the future. There are those out there seeking to completely rewrite the history on this, and they must never be allowed to win.
