Leyla Hussein, Social Activist

An award-winning global advocate for girls and women and a warrior in the fight against FGM.

An award-winning human rights activist and fundraiser, Leyla Hussein is the founder of the Dahlia Project, a support organization for victims of female genital mutilation (FGM), and co-founder of Daughters Of Eve, which works to protect girls and young women at risk from FGM.

Hussein is a powerful advocate who has spoken at TEDx, is a frequent guest on networks such as CNN and BBC and a familiar name to readers of The Guardian, The New York Times, The Washington Post and others. She is also the subject of the acclaimed documentary film The Cruel Cut.

In 2018 she will be launching the digital media channel "Magool" on Maven to amplify her work protecting those at risk, supporting survivors, sharing ideas and developing action plans to end FGM.

She has been recognized with numerous honors, including the World Peace and Prosperity Foundation award in 2013 and RedLine magazine's 2014 Woman of the Year.
