The Maven-TSX partnership gives rise to another great alliance

SEATTLE — Six veteran sports journalists are collaborating to offer Miami Dolphins fans wall-to-wall team coverage via Dolphinmaven.io on the Maven (ticker symbol MVEN) digital media coalition. Led by Ethan J. Skolnick, the channel is already underway with news, analysis and commentary from training camp.

“Dolphins fans now have the right place for team updates, analysis, features, video, interaction, and podcasts,” says Skolnick. “We have assembled an all-star team of professional journalists who have been covering the Dolphins and South Florida sports for decades.”

Skolnick has worked in South Florida since 1996, covering the Dolphins, Heat and nine Super Bowls for the Miami Herald, South Florida Sun-Sentinel, the Palm Beach Post and Bleacher Report, among others. He’s won several major sports writing awards, hosted the afternoon drive radio program for 790 The Ticket, and written two books. In addition, Skolnick is the co-founder of the @5ReasonsSports network, co-hosting its flagship podcast and building out the network and its social media presence.

Joining him at Dolphinmaven are Walter Villa, Antwan Staley, Harvey Fialkov, Craig Davis and Andy Kent. Each takes on a different role, combining skills to provide full coverage via beat reporting, big-picture analysis, in-depth features, historical perspectives, film analysis and video updates.

In June, Maven announced the launch of its sports network and is rolling out channels for all 32 NFL teams and major NCAA schools and will follow with every professional sport, including all major professional teams across the globe. An alliance with The Sports Xchange (TSX) — where Skolnick served as an insider on the Dolphins beat — is jump-starting the effort.

“Having just one member of this group covering the Dolphins would be a win for TSX and Maven,” says TSX founder and publisher Frank Cooney. “But six veteran journalists together providing the fantastic coverage each is known for makes Dolphinmaven the place for Dolphin fans.”

Maven’s business model is the same one the founders used to launch the Rivals.com and Scout.com networks many years ago, and marries proven leadership with next-generation technology to create a world-class home for elite, independent publishers and reporters. Maven is partnering exclusively with press-credentialed veterans to leverage the robust platform. In an era where sports journalism has been displaced by direct marketers pitching clickbait, memes and lists, Maven is embracing authenticity and professional reporting direct from the field of play.

Each team-centric maven will be awarded a “franchise” built on Maven’s platform and within a network of hundreds of independent media channels, all supporting each other with unified distribution and advertising scale. Maven’s coalition currently reaches nearly 100 million monthly visitors in a range of non-sports categories.

Maven CEO James Heckman is a former senior executive from Yahoo! and News Corp and the founder of Rivals, Scout, 5to1.com and NFL Exclusive. He says of Dolphinmaven: “This is a team of pros, with a wide range of talents and expertise, now working together on Maven’s innovative platform. You’re not going to find a better place for in-depth news and commentary, as well as comprehensive and thoughtful film study — a depth not found in legacy media.”

TSX is in its third decade as a sports wire service behind only the Associated Press in terms of broad, deep journalistic content in North America. Cooney won multiple Emmy Awards tied with the launch of FOX Sports (1994) and created underlying grading system that still runs mega-popular Madden Football. When he moved NFLDraftScout.com onto the Maven platform this spring, Cooney predicted the combined abilities of TSX and Maven will “raise the bar on multimedia journalism at a time the industry needs it the most.”

Maven is a coalition of mavens operating on a shared digital publishing, advertising and distribution platform, unified under a single media brand. Based in Seattle, Maven is publicly traded under the ticker symbol MVEN.
